Employee Experience Series - You had me at hello

So, you have a job to fill?  Lucky you - the world is your oyster.  There are lots of talented folks out there looking for employment, who want to be challenged and help make your company better.  You've narrowed down the candidate resumes to a workable few.  Now how do you get the best talent to work for you? It's key to remember that employee engagement has begun as soon as a candidate has looked at your website, talked to friends who've worked there or read online reviews.  Clearly, they're interested in your company.  Don't drop the ball during the interview.  Once you make that initial call to set up your first meeting - the employee experience is underway! A recent Brilliant Ink employee experience survey confirms that nearly one in four people felt misled by the interview process.  Specifically, once hired they didn't receive the support, variety of work, interesting projects or colleague interaction they had been promised. When working to get the right person on board, you need to keep in mind that it's not all about you and your company.  While candidates need to tell you why they are the right fit for the job, you need to tell them why they should want to work with you.  Provide a clear overview of the company, the culture, the team they'll be working with and what you think they can bring to the mix.  And, yes, you'll need to have thoroughly read their resume to understand their skills, experience and career aspirations, so you can explain how your company fits in. Listening to a candidate's needs and thinking through how their skills can give a boost to your team is worth telling them.  In fact, this survey also revealed that nine out of ten respondents said that interviewing made them excited about working for their current company.  Letting a candidate know you're excited about their skills and experience and why you think they would be a good fit can ignite that flame.  There are many people looking for work, but letting an outstanding candidate know why you want them on board and giving them a realistic view of company life, their responsibilities and expected goals is a defining moment in the hiring process, and can ensure positive employee engagement for years to come.
