When I imagine a career path I typically envision a straight diagonal line going up or the proverbial vertical ladder there to climb. But in my experience, none of these images resemble the reality that is a career. Career paths are more like a jungle gym where you play, discover, and gain strength.
What I’ve learned about strengths is that you build on what already exists. Here at Brilliant Ink we use CliftonStrengths Finder assessments to learn about our team and work better together. But in addition to team building, you can also learn a lot about the type of jobs that are best suited for your strengths.
According to my results, these are my top three strengths:
1. Relator: this strength highlights my desire to learn as much about people as possible to build a trusting relationship.
2. Restorative: this one fuels my desire to solve problems, whatever they may be.
3. WOO: it stands for winning others over. It helps me meet new people, make them my friends and keep in touch with them (aka build a network!).
These characteristics explain why I’ve been successful (and happy!) in project, people, and process management jobs. I use my strengths to build trusting relationships with my colleagues and clients. I solve problems daily and I maintain friendships that help fulfill my career and life.
Whether it’s CliftonStrengths Finder or another assessment, I encourage you to find out your strengths and see how you can build on what already exists to help you succeed in your career. Allow your strengths to take you down a path that’s completely unique to you!
