Going Places, Going Strong

Brilliant Inkies have a bit of an obsession with meaningful work, and especially helping girls and women pursue passionate, purposeful career paths. It’s why we recently established our Brilliant Futures Scholarship in partnership with Girls Inc. of Alameda County, and why we’ve teamed up with Dress for Success for their Power Walk and annual gala. More recently, we were privileged to lead two of their Professional Women’s Group (PWG) meetings in San Francisco and New York. The PWG offers employed Dress for Success women support, practical information and inspiration to achieve self-defined success in career and life. During the PWG meetings, members of the group are given a comfortable atmosphere in which they can share, grow and network with other women who have recently made the same transition into the workforce. This is one of many ways that Dress for Success goes beyond providing low-income women with interview suits, and we were thrilled to be a part of it.

As we prepared to meet the women of Dress for Success, we decided to tackle a topic that is relevant to busy women in any industry, at any point in their career: time management. It’s something we all struggle with from time to time, so we knew this would give us a chance to participate in an honest, authentic discussion. During our presentation, we discussed the importance of setting realistic goals, avoiding multi-tasking and planning ahead. Then, we had some fun and put our new skills into practice through an interactive exercise to help participants map out how they typically spend their days and how they might be able to adjust to better align with their goals.

We’ve found some helpful time-management tools along the way that we shared with participants, and below are a few of them. Take a look and let us know what you think.
