I’m deep in the depths of the “why” phase with my toddler. Every other sentence out of her mouth is “but, why?” I’ve seen other people deal with it and always thought it must be as annoying as it is cute.
What has surprised me is the earnestness that’s behind that “why.” I can see her two-year-old brain working overtime to understand the world around her. She’s (at least so far) genuinely interested in figuring out what’s happening and challenging the status quo. She doesn’t take things at face value anymore. She questions and interrogates and upends everything she sees.
I realized that I question the status quo everyday as a personal champion of the employee experience. It is my job to ask why and why not. It is my responsibility to question the norm and uncover issues and strengths. Helping companies, peers, or clients prepare for the future takes an inquisitive mind and the relentless energy of, well, a toddler. It is what we do at Brilliant Ink for our clients every day.
After all, the beauty is in the push and the pull – the questioning innocence of fresh eyes and the tried and true experience of those who’ve been there before.
As for my daughter, I’ll consider this her Brilliant Ink internship.
